Valerian To Calm Public Speaking Nerves

The official name is Valeriana Officinalis. This is Latin, and the literal translation could be "works good - smells bad." Valerian has been used for centuries and has passed every modern scientific study with flying colors. Most often, people think of Valerian as a sleep aid -- and it IS a sleep aid; a very effective one. However, in smaller doses, it is also very, very effective in claming strained nerves like those that people experience before they board an airplane for a long flight, or just before they are introduced to speak in public.

It was commonly used long before the Romans came to power, was widely popular in Medieval times. Valerian is primarily used to treat insomnia. However, it has proven to be very effective in treating stress and stress-related symptoms -- like stress-induced high blood pressure, for example.

One of the best things about Valerian is that it is nonaddictive. The prescription drug Valium and the herb Valerian sound much alike, but they are not related at all. Valium is known for its addictiveness and for its many side effects. Valerian has neither.

You do not need a prescription to buy Valerian. It is purchased over the counter at most health food and herbal stores, both online and off.
