Workaholic Alert: Know If You Are And Cure Yourself Do you find yourself thinking about your workload even after you have left the office? Does your wife constantly complain about your lack of time for her and your family, which you continuously deny? Maybe you have to think things over. Perhaps she’s right; you have already turned into a workaholic without you noticing it. Below are surefire signs that you are indeed addicted to work and some ways on how to treat that addiction. • Spending 14 Hours At Work Is Normal. If you still find yourself working even after the rest of your colleagues have retreated in the comfort of their own homes and the idea doesn’t bother you even a bit, then it’s about time to press the panic button. This is an obvious sign that you are a workaholic. Remember that being dedicated to your work is not bad, but devoting all your time to it without thinking of yourself is an exaggeration. Have you ever thought about your health? • You Make Your Home Your Second Office. If bringing home your piles of work had become a daily routine for you, then think again. A home is considered as a place where you relax your mind and tired body. Going home also gives you the chance to spend quality time with your family. Therefore, don’t contradict the concept by bringing heaps of paper work. • Weekends And Holidays Excites You. The mere thought of weekends and holidays thrills you not because you’re going to have some time off from work, but because it only means one thing -- overtime pay. Why not try letting your hair down for a while and take time to pamper and de-stress yourself. That’s why it’s called a weekend. You have to end the long week at work by taking some time to relax. Didn’t the concept originate from the story of Creation? • You Usually Pass Up On Invitations from Family or Friends. If you have consecutively declined a friend or relative’s invitation for dinner or an outing without any valid reason aside from ‘a paper to finish at the office,’ then try to examine yourself. Perhaps you’re already going overboard. Cut yourself some slack and try to enjoy being with real human beings aside from your computer and papers. Trust me; people are more enjoyable to be with. • Thinking of Work Loads Always Keeps You Up At Night. If the thought of your unfinished business in the office keeps you tossing and turning every night, you really need serious help. Come on! Sleeping is the only time to clear your mind of everything that’s bothering you, most especially if it concerns work. Be rid of the 8-10 hours at the office, and give the excess time to yourself. • You Often Eat In a Hurry During Lunchtimes or Even Miss It. Do you often stand up in the middle of a lunch break ahead of the others to rush back to work? Or perhaps, do you often prefer to stay in your cubicle and miss lunch because of too much staring at the monitor? Relax and slow down. You have the entire afternoon to do your stuff, and there’s no need to hurry unless it’s a matter of life and death. • You Barely Know Your Officemates. If you live
in your own world and barely notice the people who enter and leave the
office, chances are you don’t even know who the new additions
in your department are. Knowing your colleagues’ last names is
even far fetch. Remember, you are in the office not only to earn money
but to mingle with your officemates too. |
