Three Simple Techniques To Communicate Well With Others Communicating well is one of the most important things that a person should learn in his lifetime. It is also an essential part of business; communications let the people know what a business is all about, and what services and products it has to offer. Communication transcends image and goals. It is also a basic unit in interaction. This is why building effective communication skills is important. Communications is all about dynamism. It is not static nor is it one-sided. Communication is not just giving a speech or talking for hours; it’s also about listening. Communication is not just about expressing oneself but also understanding other people. This article tries to give some important tips on how to develop communication skills under the necessary assumptions that have to be established first. Listed below are some concepts on how to properly impart communication skills to others and how these concepts can be effectively used for everyday life communication. 1. Understand to be understood. Many people misunderstand the concept of communication. They see it as a defensive kind of interaction, especially in terms of conflicts or arguments. They never would like to open up to the idea of understanding the point of view of the other person; and that is why no resolution will ever come out of their interaction. The key thing about communication is to understand the feelings of others to be able to get an understanding of where they are coming from. This way, one can identify different ways on how to present a certain argument to others that they would find palatable. It’s just like thinking about ways on how to serve vegetables to children. 2. Get the Language. People use different languages in communicating. When I say “language” I am not referring to language of speech; rather, I am referring to language of communicating. Communicating requires different languages because people differ in how they process information and how they see things. An effective communicator will be able to speak the language of the one whom he is talking with. Certain issues need to be packaged in a certain way to be able to communicate them effectively. 3. Take note of the barriers. There are a lot of barriers that can come in-between parties who are trying to communicate with one another. An effective communicator would be able to identify and avoid these barriers right from the beginning. One of the most common barriers in communication is the presence of too many assumptions. These assumptions may pertain to the other person or the subject that you are talking about. These assumptions may sometimes hinder people from truly discussing the real issues. Another barrier that may go against effective communication is the fact that people are pattern-driven individuals. These patterns may make us feel weird when we see others do things in ways which we have never done them before. A basic barrier in effective communication is ego. People would want to coerce other people in accepting their views. This is not the way to effectively communicate one’s ideas because it would result in animosity rather than understanding. These are just some basic concepts that a trainer can use in explaining
effective communication to other people. Effective communication aims
at arriving in the middle where everyone will become more at peace and
fulfilled. |
