A typical stereotype image of politicians are serious, gray-suited people who are in-charge of formulating policies. Since politics is about endless debates, tough choices, and intense discussions, politicians often neglect a talent that is needed in their field. That talent is charisma.

Charisma is a very powerful tool in business and other fields such as politics. But what is charisma? Charisma is not easy to define. It is intangible but we know it when we see it.

Among politicians, forming policies is their main agenda; but if they have charisma, they will be able to inspire and communicate better with people. Charisma will also make people think and urge them to get involved.

A study has shown that charisma is in-born and learned. Politicians who wish to get more people on their side will definitely have a plus if they have charisma.

What makes people attracted to charismatic persons? Physical attraction, beauty, and sex appeal are often part of charisma. As part of our instincts, we are attracted to good-looking persons. That may explain the magic of charisma; but it is not always the case. You may not be the best-looking person, but if you are able to lighten up a room with your own presence and sway people to believe in your visions, then you certainly have charisma.

If you think you lack charisma or need more charisma to help you, then try to be more charismatic! Just remember not to overdo it.

2. Work on your image.
Who says striving hard will get you anywhere? It is also important to check your personal grooming. See if you exude confidence and appear professional.

3. Actions speak louder than words.
Leaders do not project vulnerability or weakness. When making speeches or just talking, avoid covering your face, and try to smile genuinely. Also, learn to make your voice stronger and calmer while maintaining eye contact. Firm handshakes are also a plus.

4. Attend courses that will build your leadership skills.
There are courses that you can take to help you boost your charisma or other areas of yourself that you want to work on.

5. Work on your emotional quotient.
Being a politician or a leader means that you are strong and competent and thus, you should create a healthy staff. This means that everyone in your staff or environment must feel their worth and contributions. Learn how to listen and make others comfortable in social scenes.

6. Lead by example.
Be an example to the people by exuding optimism and confidence. Be fair and constructive.

7. Be passionate about your work.
Simplify complex messages and inspire people with your goals. Let people see your vision and believe in it.

8. Have a sense of humor.
This makes politicians more engaging but make sure that you use humor in appropriate conversations.

Charisma in politics is not only about good looks. It requires some work and action but the rewards is worth it!
