The Art Of Dressing Up

Who says that image is just a superficial aspect of a person’s character?

First impressions are lasting; and these impressions are created based on the image we project on the first meeting. The image we project is generally helpful in maintaining good social relations with people around us. One important aspect of correct image projection reflects in how we dress up.

In this article, you will learn some tips for creating a positive personal fashion statement.

Color
Generally, people who want to stand out in a crowd wear red. There is a scientific explanation for this. Red easily catches attention since it has the longest wavelength in the spectrum of colors.

If you want to achieve a younger and fresher look, pastel and marshmallow hues such as pink, baby blue, and light yellow will do the trick. Teenagers go for these colors, as these are also pleasing to the eyes.

Earth colors, such as brown and cream, project a more relaxing and laid-back image. White and black are usually safe choices, since these can be used for both formal and casual occasions.

Corporate wear is normally limited to dark colors such as black, gray, and blue to create an image of professionalism. Splashes of colors may be added to liven up monotonous suits. Brooch, scarf, belt, and accessories add a dash of color that reflects creativity and the ability to have fun.

Body Shape
The crucial element in dressing up is the body type. Body types vary and certain types may require designs that will highlight your best points. For people with straight body shape, go for tops with ruffles and other intricate designs that will add volume to the top. Match these tops with flared pants and wide pockets to create an illusion of curves.

Meanwhile, people with perfect curves can flaunt them by wearing fitted tops and denims. For those with extraordinary heavy top, select pleated skirts, flares, and tapered necklines to balance off the chest area.

For people with wide hips, pick detailed tops with wide or asymmetric necklines and pair it with simple and straight-cut pants or skirts to help balance body proportions. Furthermore, shirts and blouses with vertical stripes help make body parts look thinner, while horizontal stripes create volume.

Design and Texture
Design and texture reflect personal character, gender, and the context where the clothes will be worn. When considering design and texture, think where you will wear it and whether it will be appropriate for work, casual weekends, party, church, etc.

To achieve the rugged masculine look perfect for casual get-together with friends, wear denims, suede, and rubberized materials in dark colors such as black, brown and blue. For a flirty feminine look, use bright colors, floral designs, beads, embroideries, ruffles, glitzy chains, appliqués, rhinestones, and cloth patches. For formal events, you can never go wrong with timeless, symmetric, and classic designs using silk and velvet. Linen and cotton remain favorites for casual affairs because of ease and comfort these materials can provide.

Even with these tips, the best rule of thumb is still to wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident. Apart from comfort, what counts most in dressing up is neither the latest limited-edition watch nor the diamond jewelry. Your best accessory is still the universal, sincere, and well-meaning SMILE.
