Overcoming Overdrive Have you seen an overheated machine? It runs at its maximum best before finally losing its steam. This may be the same accurate description for your life. You may be traveling at a pace that seems to be racing against time. You may feel that there is just so much to do, leading you to an overdrive. Being on overdrive does not necessarily mean being able to do more in less time. It may actually be the contrary. Taking time to think and relax might actually be more beneficial. It will allow you to do more work with less effort and time. You will be more productive and more able to think vividly if you are less stressful. Go ahead, relax, and sit for a while as you consider these time saving tips. These strategies will allow you to do more without reaching the overdrive mode. More importantly, these tips can be beneficial to your health. 1. Learn to delegate tasks whenever possible. Some delicate tasks may require your attention and personal touch. Less sensitive jobs, especially repetitive tasks, can be assigned to staffs under you or to a personal assistant. Delegation not only saves you time but money as well. Sharing tasks with others leaves you more spare time for yourself. This will give you more time to engage in tasks that are more important, such as critical decision-making. While it may appear that you will spend more money by hiring additional people, this is actually one technique on how to save. Your time will be well spent if you actually think of how to make more money rather than be bogged down with details, which could easily be delegated to others. 2. Hold meetings with your staff as often as time permits. They may have ideas they might want to share in connection with efficient use of time, ease of work, and improved job efficiency. Heed smart ideas and give credit to where it is due. This encourages harmony between staff members; and the beneficiary is you. 3. A carefree walk in the park can do wonders. You might feel overwhelmed by work and not realize it. Being overwhelmed reduces efficiency and minimizes productivity. What is worse is you tend to commit more mistakes under this condition. Free your mind of the clutters of stress. Walk around and get some fresh air. This may sound too simple but this is what you actually need to de-stress and overcome the overdrive. 4. Avoid bringing work at home. Working late does not produce more. It may rob you of quality time for yourself or your family. Budget your time in a realistic way. Initially, set time frames for specific tasks. As you have actually set the work in motion, adjust your schedule to make it more realistic. As you progress, you will become more efficient. 5. Take time to rest. While working, you may occasionally feel sleepy or tired. The sluggish feeling is your body’s way of telling you that you need to rest for a while. Take advantage of break times. Doze off for a few minutes when necessary. When you wake up, you will feel rejuvenated. There is more to life than just work. Your life should not revolve around work and pressures accompanying it. Be reminded that life becomes richer with the relationships you establish with your spouse, children, parents, friends, and yourself. Your role is to strike a balance between work and personal life. The fast track might not necessarily be the right speed to get more
work done. Avoid running on overdrive. The smart track is the way to
go. |
