The Truth About Hypnosis I suppose you have watched a psycho killer film that involves an individual who becomes an entirely different person after being subjected to hypnosis. Or, maybe you have seen one in which the lead actor is not in control of his actions and ends up being used by the person who hypnotized him. But what is hypnosis really? Is it something bad and dangerous? Should you consider being hypnotized? Hypnosis is a procedure in which a person is put into a trance with the aim of making his mind work towards a certain goal. Hypnosis is actually utilized by science to medically or psychologically heal people. The process of hypnosis banks on the power of suggestion and what the mind can do. Contrary to what others believe, hypnosis does not put you into such a deep slumber that you do things you won’t remember. Clinical hypnosis is not like that. Yes, the person is placed in a state of full body rest, but he will not be asleep. His body may be immobile, but his mind will be active. That means he has full control of the whole situation. He knows what is being done to him and what he is going through. Hypnosis rests the body and stimulates the mind and not the other way around. And as to the issue of control, the person under hypnosis can stop the trance should he want to do so. He can stop his regression if he so wishes. The control does not shift to the person doing the hypnosis. It stays with the subject and is not taken away from him. Hypnosis has been seen to be effective in healing people of psychological and physical problems. Hypnosis is widely being used in helping people out of their smoking habits, drinking habits, depression, and other similar states. In a hypnotic session, a person is subjected into a state of pure relaxation--a state of no worries. He is asked to think of a place where there are no problems or external forces. Usually, the beauty and calmness of nature is used. The serenity of an ocean and a deserted beach are the things being suggested. The patient is asked to focus on the quietness and on the sound of nature. Once the person has succeeded in putting himself in that state, where he is alone and has nothing but nature with him, the platform of hypnosis is laid. The doctor can then proceed to make the patient think and feel things beneficial to him and in the whole healing process. Hypnosis is a very popular tool nowadays. You can even hypnotize yourself
through the use of self-hypnotic cassettes and audio files. Hypnosis
is propagated because it can really be effective. A lot of people can
attest to that. If you think hypnosis is right for you as a treatment
but have not tried it because you are afraid, don’t be. Hypnosis
has proven to be very safe. |
