The Benefits Of Hypnosis
Hypnosis is an altered state in the back of one’s consciousness
where circumstances and situations are done without the person’s
knowledge. Often, these situations involve funny elements, such as walking
like a duck, howling like a wolf or barking like a dog and in some instances,
can be utterly dangerous, such as robbing a bank or killing a person.
All of these are performed while in a state of unconsciousness –
under a spell, so to speak.
But the use of hypnosis may be far funnier and more dangerous than all
of these – in fact, there are some instances wherein hypnosis
is use to help people cure their problems or to help straighten out
their minds. Accordingly, hypnosis has been reported to permanently
stop smoking, has been reported to help cure insomnia or even help out
cure the negative thoughts of a person.
The origin of this use of hypnosis goes way back. According to Olafur
S. Palsson, Psy.D in his article Clinical hypnosis: Something for You?,
a Scottish born phycisiam working in India, James Esdaile, during the
early part of the 19th century performed an operation of over three
hundred and forty, with only hypnosis as an instrument for his operations
which mainly included amputating and removal of several large tumors.
On the other hand, Sigmund Freud also resorted to hypnosis during the
turn of the 20th century but then abandoned it to further enhance psychoanalysis,
another form of mental healing.
Today, there have been studies indicating that hypnosis can help a person
with his problems. Hypnosis can help a patient alleviate the pains that
he has been experiencing. It helps to get rid of negative habits (like
drinking or smoking), brings out the repressed emotions of a person
(things that hinder him back from growing mentally, physically and spiritually),
helps a person to get rid of anxieties and fears, and helps him develop
a more positive outlook in life.
For the physical well-being of a person, hypnosis can help reduce the
pain a mother experiences during childbirth, burn treatment, and can
even substitute for anesthesia during surgery. In the field of dentistry,
hypnosis can also help in reducing the pains one experiences during
the pulling out of the teeth.
And with all of these results, it is quite probably that indeed hypnosis
can help cure anyone out of their misery and pain.
