Stop Procrastinating Now! Do you often find yourself looking at the heap of paper works on your desk and the “To Do List” in your post it? You swore to yourself for the nth time that you will start working as soon as possible, but you’re still there lazing in your bed or busying yourself by flipping over the cable channels in your television. Get up and start moving. Procrastinating may be sinfully tempting but you can’t get anywhere unless you start getting serious with the things that are waiting to be done. Below are some helpful tips that will help you kick it off the next time you say to yourself that you really want to start. • Clean Up the Clutters. If you are faced with loads of things to do but you can’t seem to get started, try tidying up your workspace first. Clean up the clutters and piece of papers scattered all over your desk. Remove unnecessary things in your desk that might cause distraction and lead you to daydreaming. Remember, you need some focus, so if necessitated, putting away your crush’s picture in your table is also a must. • Set A Realistic Goal. If you plan to finish all your term paper and report in few days time, discipline yourself and make a concrete goal to hit. Allot two hours a day for your term papers, three hours a day for studying and preparing your report, and the rest follows. This way, you’ll be more organized. Again, stick to it. • Have a Break. Taking a break is not a mortal sin so have some rest if you already feel exhausted. You’re no mutant so it is only natural to get tired. Remember, taking a rest is different from procrastinating but just don’t overdo the relaxing. Taking some time out will also help you regain the energy that you need to do what you have to do. • Find the Right Spot and Time. Some people are just night owls while some are really morning people. Others can’t think when they hear any kind of noise while playing upbeat music get other people in the mood for thinking. It all depends on the person, so discover what fits you. Although it is not really advisable to work inside your bedroom, it can still be considered as the next best thing after the library if you want a quiet place to study and do your stuff. In this way, you’ll be freer from distractions. However, just a little warning, shun away from working in your bed as this is a great temptation. Because the next thing you know, you might just find yourself sleeping instead of finishing a project. • Reward Yourself. Remember the time when you were always being rewarded with a toy by your parents when you were still a child for having high grades? It worked right? You can use this method to motivate yourself. After a long hour of work and study, give yourself a tap on the back and unwind. According to a study by the National Science Foundation, “The key to having workers who are both satisfied and productive is motivation…” And based on this research, the most effective way to motivate someone is through rewards and recognition. Through this, you will always look forward to completing another task
knowing there’s a reward waiting for you. Nevertheless, don’t
make the reward the sole reason for you to strive for your goal. |
