How To Learn Faster

Did you know you can learn faster than you do now? Not only can you learn faster, if you want to, you can help others to learn faster as well.

If you’re a parent, in management, a trainer or a coach, this can be invaluable for you while working with others.

The first thing to realize is that not everyone processes information the same. That means we all learn differently. For the most part, we have three ways of processing and learning.

The main three learning processes are:

The Examiner
The Examiner examines everything. He is analytical and that’s how he learns. If he is studying a math problem or trying to learn a new job, he won’t ‘get’ it until he can mentally tear down the process and put it back together in his head. He has to know backwards and forwards before he can even start to feel comfortable with the task or problem.

The best way to help The Examiner learn is to give him a ton of time in the classroom or lab so they can rip through the material and learn on their own time – without the pressures and distractions outside their ‘mental world’.

The Performer
The Performer is polar opposite of the Examiner. If you want to help The Performer learn, put her in a room with the problem or task and let her tear into it physically. She learns best in a new position or job by just throwing her into the middle of it and letting her learn with OTJ (On The Job) training. Sure she’ll make a few mistakes, but that’s the essence of learning for The Performer. If you understand that you have a Performer, do not punish her for mistakes. You may lose a valuable employee. And if you’re working with children, understand her learning strategies and praise her for her effort. The praise will serve as a reward for her to progress faster than ever before.

The Observer
Another name for The Observer could be “The Modeler” or “The Imitator”. If you put The Observer in a classroom or training room setting, he will be seen as a slow student. Being a slow student may be true, but it’s not true to say that he is a slow learner. The only people slow between the two are those who do not understand the learning processes of “The Observer”. The Observer takes all the information in and excels when he sees how everything works together. Then, and only then, will there be an environment conducive to learning.

Learning can be fun or it can be a nightmare – for the teacher or the student. One thing is one hundred percent without a doubt. If you do not know the way you or your student learns, it can be extremely hard to be a success in that particular chosen field or subject.

Good luck with your employees, children or anyone you are trying to mentor. These learning styles are not the only ways people learn. But they are three of the main three. Hopefully, with this information, you will be more equipped to rise up another genius!
