Who’s Your Role Model?

When we were kids, we all had our own set of idols and role models, right? Some of us wanted to be a superhero, some of us wanted to be Barbie, while some dreamed of being a doctor, a teacher or a President.

As we grew older, perhaps our role models have changed. However, one fact remains the same. We still have our own role model, someone that we look up to and desire to emulate.

Each person has his or her own role model, and it doesn’t really matter whether the person is dead or alive, famous or not. What matters most is how a certain person affects or inspires another to become a better human being.

More than Just a Role Model

There are instances in one’s life wherein his or her role model becomes more than just a role model – he or she becomes an inspiration. More often than not, people’s role model(s) reflect their personality as well as their aspirations and dreams in life.

Aspiring basketball players in junior high surely have a long list of professional basketball players that they idolize. Similarly, amateur models surely idolize world-renowned models such as Cindy Crawford, Heidi Klum, etc.

Role models serve as inspiration to the persons who idolize and look up to them because they fuel the dream of other people! Their idolizers treat them as a living proof that they too, can become like their idols, if only they work hard enough.

Be Careful In Choosing Your Role Models

People should really be careful in choosing the persons that they choose to idolize because in one way or another, the attitudes and the over-all aura of their chosen role model will surely affect their behaviour.

Do not choose role models who are exhibiting unpleasant and scandalous behaviour because you will not get anything good from it. Make sure that when you choose your role model, it is someone who will encourage and motivate you to work harder and dream bigger.

In a nutshell, you don’t have to be disappointed or frustrated with yourself if ever you fail to become like your role model. Remember that each person is uniquely different from each other and one can never be exactly the same with another person. Even identical twins have their own differences. Learn to accept your strengths and limitations so that you can live your dream without having to face unnecessary self-pity and disappointments.
