When Freelancers Outsource

Freelancers are hired when business owners need to outsource work, instead of paying someone in house to do the work. Business owners will often outsource work to freelancers because it makes economical sense to do so. They do not have to provide office space, insurance, or anything else that goes along with hiring an employee. It is a win-win situation for the client and the freelancer.

Many clients may be surprised to find that the freelancers that they hire often outsource the work as well. In fact, freelancers often work with other freelancers in the same and different fields to fulfill a request from a client. It's more commonplace than one might realize.

So, where do freelancers find their freelancers? They will often use the online freelance job sites, such as ScriptLance or Rent-A-Coder, but they may also use freelancers that they have met through various networking venues, such as forums or events that are designed for freelancers.

A freelancer who outsources to other freelancers may pay the other freelancer a certain percentage of what the original freelancer is being paid, or the full amount that the client is paying for the work that is to be done, splitting the actual work to be done with that other freelancer, so that they both benefit.

Freelancers will often outsource to other freelancers if they have too much work to get do, or they don't have the needed qualifications to finish a job. In the end, however, the original freelancer gets credit for the work done with the client in most cases.

This is a good way to break into freelancing, and also a good way to keep clients happy. It is also a good way to supplement your freelance business, when times are slow. They will think you are superman because you can accomplish so much, in a short period of time. In most instances, you do not have to inform them that you are outsourcing the work, unless you are working through a freelance website that requires such notification.
