You can see yourself as a freelancer, and you probably have a picture in your mind of how your day will go once you are a full-time freelancer. Let's run through the typical scenario that you might imagine.

You see yourself getting up at a leisurely hour of the morning — or afternoon. You see yourself slowly sipping your coffee, staring out of the window, and watching your world come alive. You see yourself wandering into your home office or studio, and settling down to work. Your view of things flashes forward a few hours, and you see yourself stopping work, and going for a stroll in the park, and having the evening all to yourself.

If this is similar to what you envision, you are in for a rude awakening. Freelancing really isn't like that at all. The chances are much greater that your day will go very differently.

In reality, you will most likely wake up at the crack of dawn, after a late night. You will stagger to the kitchen for that cup of coffee, and gulp it as you head directly to your home office or studio. You most likely haven't even had time to get dressed — but there is either a pressing deadline that you must meet, or you have no work, and the bills are coming due. Either way, you are in your office — at the crack of dawn — finishing up a project or looking for a new one to get those bills paid.

You will most likely be in that office for the entire day, and most of the evening. Welcome to the wonderful world of freelancing. It doesn't have to be this way, however. You can have the first vision, but what you must realize is that the first vision cannot work in the beginning, in most cases. You have to reach stardom in your field first, and that takes hard work, and long hours. The good news is that when you have reached that status, there is nothing better than a freelancer's life.
