How To Win A Freelancing Bid


If you freelance through any of the freelance job sites on the Internet, you are literally competing with hundreds of other freelancers in your field for each job that is posted. How can you compete against so many people, and consistently win enough to pay your bills?

It's easier than you think, if you are willing to do it. Most of those sites have a rating system and allow buyers (clients) to leave reviews for the work that you have done for them. Obviously, the trick to winning more bids is to get a high rating and rave reviews. So, how do you accomplish that — especially when you are new to the site?

Start by underbidding. Yes, you are worth more, and you should earn more, but in order to gain success, you first must build up your rating and get those rave reviews. Clients not only want the work done well, they also want it at the best possible price. But because you have no ratings when you are starting out, you may need to offer to do the work at a price that is below what the work is actually worth.

Furthermore, because they have no reviews to read from past clients, you need to either create a file of sample work, or set up a website that will allow you to display your samples. Few clients will take a chance on someone who has no ratings, no reviews, and no samples to show them. Be prepared for this, before you ever bid on a job.

Finally, be honest. When you bid on a job, let them know that you are new to the site. Also, give them navigation instructions for finding your sample work. Let them know that you are offering a lower price than other bidders in order to get things rolling for you through that freelance site, and that you will appreciate being given the chance to work with them on their project.

You will be amazed at the number of clients who will jump at the opportunity to get a lower price for the work, when you can show them samples that indicate that you really do know what you are doing. From there, it's all cake — because you will have rave reviews and ratings that allow you to compete with other freelancers to back you up.
