How To Find Clients For Your Freelance Business

One of a freelancer's biggest concerns is finding clients for their business. However, once they get started, they find out that this is really the least of their worries. Finding clients is really quite easy.

If you are just starting out, the easiest way to find clients is to use one of the freelance job sites, such as ScriptLance, Rent-A-Coder, Elance, or Guru. To win jobs, have samples of your work ready to be viewed, bid lower than everyone else, and do an outstanding job. It is just a matter of time before you have a steady following.

Make yourself as visible as possible. Get a listing in your local yellow pages. Put an advertisement in your local newspaper. Create a website, and get it listed in the search engines. Advertise on other websites, and in industry-specific newsletters. Get listed in as many freelance directories as you possibly can, and don't forget trade specific directories as well.

Attend trade shows and conferences in your field, and hand out professional business cards. Also, make it a point to connect with other freelancers in your field, as they will be surprisingly helpful in finding work for you, as long as they have plenty of their own work.

Once you get clients, ask them for referrals, and also ask them to write short testimonials for you. Post these testimonials on your website, and include them in any other promotional material you may use.

Once you get a client, work hard to hang onto them for life. Make sure that you always submit exceptional work, that you communicate well, and that you deliver on time. Clients don't really want to hear about problems. All they really want is completed work, on time, as cheaply as possible. Make it seem like a breeze!
