That's a great question, and it has an easy answer. A freelancer who needs extra income simply finds more work, and they can do this in a variety of ways. For example, if you are a freelancer with steady clients, but you know that you need a down payment for a new car, you might go through one of the numerous freelance sites on the Internet to find small jobs to earn that extra money that you need.

Since you already have a full load of work from your regular clients, this is work that you would do during the evening or on weekends — at least until you've saved up the money that you need. These freelance sites are really great for earning extra money — and also great for earning a fulltime income, if you don't have one.

Another option is to contact the freelancers in your field that you have been networking with. Often, freelancers have overflow work that they will give to another freelancer. In most cases, the freelancer who has the work to give is the one that will get credit for the work, but the freelancer who actually does the work is the one that will get the money from that work.

Sometimes freelancers step completely out of their field to earn extra money. One way that this is done is with a part-time traditional job. Obviously, you don't want to start a job and then quit it, as this would never look good on a resume, so you need a temporary part-time job. If you have skills, these types of jobs can easily be found through a temporary agency. Temp agencies hire everybody from secretaries to day laborers to professionals, and there are Temp agencies in every metropolitan area.
