Ebay provides a shipping calculator to help figure out what actual shipping costs will be when you ship your sold item to the buyer. A seller can calculate actual shipping costs or they can set a flat rate shipping fee that will include handling costs.

Ebay also provides shipping cartons and crates at very reasonable cost to sellers.

Ebay makes the shipping of merchandise from sellers to buyers as easy and as painless as possible. You can get a lot of shipping information on the eBay website. There is an entire section dedicated to nothing but shipping and there are forums where sellers can exchange ideas and information regarding shipping, as well.

There is a relatively new problem that has developed with eBay shipping that has not yet been addressed. A seller can set the price of an item very low...even below the actual cost of the item and then charge a ridiculously high shipping rate.

For example: an item might be priced at $1 and the shipping cost could be $25. This has become a rather common practice among less than honest eBay sellers. The effect of such a ploy is that the eBay fee is very low. The buyer can be charged tax on shipping fees that will not be paid as taxes by the seller.

When there is a problem with the sale, the buyer might recover the price of the item ($1) but not the shipping cost ($25).

Suggestions have been made to allow buyers to shop according to shipping costs as well as by other criteria. Shipping costs that are out of line with the item being purchased is a problem for eBay and one that is growing.

Of course, buyers do have the option of not purchasing items that come with high shipping costs attached. As always....buyers beware!
