David Blaine: Good Magician Or Just Crazy

Like every great performer, David Blaine has his share of critics. He has been called many things....a show off....crazy.....pandering fool....and those are some of the nicer ones.

Its just my opinion, of course, but Id say David Blaine is crazy like a fox and his detractors are taking notes like crazy trying to figure out how he does what he does. Recently in London, according to a Reuters report, “The daredevil U.S. magician apparently drew blood after he was asked whether he could show the assembled reporters any new tricks.

He borrowed a pocket knife and screamed as he applied it to his left ear.

He left the room holding a bloodied handkerchief to his ear before reappearing and walking past journalists with his ear and the top of his shirt.

Did he get noticed? Yes!” Did he get a ton of free publicity? “Yes!” Did he actually cut off his ear? (Ha! He’s not that crazy.) But the guy certainly knows how to draw a crowd.

Last night, May 8, 2006, I watched the David Blaine special on ABC. All I can say is WOW! His objective was to hold his breath under water for 9 minutes bound in chains and doing it after having been living under water for a week.

He didnt make the nine minutes but theres no way anybody could call what he did a failure. He was brilliant! During the show there were several pieces of him doing street magic which is how he started his career. Each piece was a lesson to any want-to-be magician in the art of performing magic.

He isnt crazy enough not to prepare to the very best of his ability to successfully do a stunt, either. He is willing to do whatever he needs to do to prepare for success.

He lost 40 or 50 pounds in order to get into shape for this attempted stunt and worked hard to get in top physical condition.

He trained with Navy Seals and visited with people who have the mentality for achieving success like Evil Knivel.

David Blaine isnt crazy... he is one great magician that will go down in history as such.
