Black Magic: Hexes, Curses And Spells Black magic is a branch of magic used to perform evil acts or draw on malevolent powers. Black magic is usually invoked to kill, injure or cause destruction. It may also be used for personal gain. Typically, one who practices black magic is known as a witch, a warlock or a dark wizard. VooDoo also has black magic spells. Hexes: The word, “Hex”, is of German origin, and beliefs connected with it spread from Europe to the United States, especially to the Pennsylvania Dutch country. The colorful, geometric hex signs found on Pennsylvania Dutch barns are meant to protect the animals within from malicious curses, spells, and the dreaded evil eye. The basic curse is a pretty straightforward concept. It is simply a verbalized exhortation to the fates, requesting that bad things happen to the victim. The minimum requirement for a hex involves speaking a brief description of what you want to happen to the victim, while invoking a magical name or word. Curses: A curse can be said to be the effective implementation of the god’s wrath against the victim of the curse. Cursing rests on the belief in the possibility of some power bringing down calamity on people or things; and that this curse can be made effective by the mere power of the spoken word, without any regard to its moral justification. Spells: It is said (and even widely believed) that a witch or a voodoo can cast a spell over a person that removes their free will and makes them do whatever the spell caster wishes them to do. Sometimes a doll, which represents the person over whom the spell is to be cast, is used along with an incantation. There are many kinds of spells... some good and some evil.
