The Struggle with Child Temper Tantrums

Children within the ages of 1-4 years old are the ones who are most vulnerable to experiencing temper tantrums. The gender of the children is not really an issue, for both girls and boys are susceptible in exhibiting this kind of behavior.

More often than not, these kids are more prone to exhibit temper tantrums during the following situations:

1) Before going to bed: Usually, kids are grumpy during this time because they still want to stay up and watch TV or maybe play with their toys, etc.

2) During meals: It is a known fact that kids at these age range are very difficult to feed. You have to make a lot of exciting noises as well as creative strategies so that they can be enticed to eat what you will feed them. Kids at these age range are also known to be picky eaters.

3) Upon waking up: Kids are a bit difficult to deal during this time because they don't want to be woken up. They will usually exhibit a wailing session when you force them to wake up.

4) Bathing time: Kids tend to be difficult when they are being bathed because they don't want to stay in one place for a long time. Aside from that, most of the kids do not enjoy bathing time because they don't like the idea of getting wet in the bath.

5) Getting dressed: Kids don't really feel comfortable when they are being dressed up by their parents. They find it annoying when there seems to be too much fuss in a certain activity such as this.

6) Watching TV: Kids enjoy watching TV when their favorite TV shows are on, such as cartoons and other puppet shows. However, when someone would change the channel, that's the time they'll have a temper tantrum.

7) When the attention of his/her parents is shifted to other persons: At this stage, kids find it irritating when they attention of their parents are not aimed towards them. That is why they usually resort to temper tantrums so that the attention of their parents will shift back to them.

Even though kids at these age range may seem a bit annoying and difficult to deal with, keep in mind that having temper tantrums are just normal behaviors that they exhibit during that phase and it is a part of growing up.

Just remain calm and do not match the child's hot temper with your own. Remember that you are the one who is mature enough to adjust and be flexible with children's temper tantrums. Think before you act and as much as possible, avoid giving corporal punishment. Just talk to the child in a calm manner and try your best to let him/her understand the situation and explain to him/her what is right and wrong.
