You have within you the power to transform your mood IN AN INSTANT!
You can instantly transform your mood from gloomy and sullen - to jovial, hopeful, and optimistic. The best part is that you only need to know just ONE SECRET!
Here is the secret: How you feel is a result of how you think. The quality of your thinking determines the quality of your life.
If you think in a positive way, you will have positive feelings. Think sad thoughts and you will be sad. Think about misery and you will be miserable. Think fun thoughts and you will feel jovial. Easy, isn't it?
Thinking, an often taken for granted human activity, can turn things negatively or positively. The choice is up to you. Better yet, what you choose to think is up to you.
Imagine a national scenario marked by economic projections all pointing to an irreversible downturn coupled with corruption issues. These situations may directly affect the mindset of its citizens, with majority opting to migrate to other lands and totally giving up on their country.
If the collective thinking dwells on depressive thoughts, you can easily guess what the turn out will be. Each individual contributes in making the situation worse for his country. In this case, citizens must be enjoined to think positively and suppress the depressive mood. Putting positive thoughts into action can put an end to depression.
How can this be done? How can thinking instantly transform your depressive mood into a jovial one?
Before anything, you must realize this: A depressive situation is something that is real. There isn't much that can be done to instantly change it. You cannot do much in transforming the external environment but you can control how you respond to a depressive situation.
One of the best ways to instantly shift your mood is to look for opportunities in the midst of depression. Ask yourself, "What good opportunity will come out of this particular depressive situation?"
Robin Sharma, author of the book The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari expounds on this technique, which he calls "Opposition Thinking." Listen to his words of wisdom: "When an undesirable thought occupies the focal point of your mind, immediately replace it with an uplifting one."
How do you apply opposition thinking in your daily life?
Refrain from thinking discouraging thoughts. How is this done? Imagine yourself as a traffic officer and your job is to catch those discouraging thoughts from entering the highway of your mind. Stop yourself from entertaining those types of thoughts.
The first few hours will be tough, as it forces you to become aware that you are thinking these uninspiring thoughts. Others, who tried this first step the first time, found it an enlightening activity. They realized that gloomy thoughts dominate their mind.
Understand that you have the power to change those discouraging thoughts. Just as you allow negative thoughts to enter your mind, you can substitute these with uplifting ones. Sharma says it in a Zen-like way, "Appreciate once and for all that just as easily as you allowed these gloomy thoughts to enter, you can replace them with cheerful ones."
Shift your thoughts. The easiest way is to think of the opposite. If you are thinking dispirited, think of cheerful and energetic thoughts. Seek out happy memories. Sit up straight and breathe deeply. More importantly, smile!
So you see, you have the power to transform your mood in an instant! What is good about this is that you only need to remember one thing: The quality of your thinking determines the quality of your life.
